Which is the best mobile network in Switzerland?

Swisscom, Sunrise and Salt in our big 2026 comparison: coverage, 5G, speed and the cheapest plans on each network.

Switzerland has three mobile networks: Swisscom, Sunrise and Salt. All three cover more than 99% of the population and offer 5G. For most users in cities and suburban areas, it doesn't matter which network they use. All three are excellent.

Differences mainly show up in remote mountain regions (where Swisscom leads), in 5G speeds (where Sunrise often comes out on top) and in price. Dozens of cheap providers (so-called MVNOs) ride on one of the three networks and offer the same network quality at much lower prices.

Frequently asked questions about Swiss mobile networks

Swisscom has the best network coverage (around 99.9% of the population), followed by Sunrise (around 99.8%) and Salt (around 99%). In cities and suburban areas, all three networks are equally good. The differences mainly show up in remote mountain regions, where Swisscom has the edge.
Sunrise has the largest 5G network in Switzerland with over 700 locations and reaches the highest download speeds in many regions. Swisscom also runs a strong 5G network with about 650+ locations. Salt is expanding its 5G network too, but focuses mainly on urban areas.
Network operators (Swisscom, Sunrise, Salt) own and run their own mobile networks. MVNOs (Mobile Virtual Network Operators) like Wingo, Digital Republic, GoMo or Lidl Connect use the infrastructure of one of the network operators. They often offer cheaper prices with the same network quality, since they don't have to maintain their own network infrastructure.
Swisscom network: Wingo, Mucho, M-Budget Mobile, Aldi Mobile. Sunrise network: Digital Republic, Galaxus Mobile, yallo, Quickline, Lebara. Salt network: GoMo, Lidl Connect, spusu, Lycamobile. Most MVNOs run on the Sunrise or Salt network.
For most users in cities and suburban areas it isn't worth it, since all three networks are equivalent there. A cheaper provider on the Sunrise or Salt network is more than enough. If you spend a lot of time in remote mountain regions, the Swisscom network is for you. But you don't have to take Swisscom itself: MVNOs like Wingo from CHF 17.95/mo. use the same network.
