In Switzerland, not automatically. Unlike the EU, there's no legal requirement for free EU roaming here. Many people pay extra for it. Often unnecessary if you rarely travel.

Yes, generally. Wingo (a Swisscom subsidiary) and Mucho use the full Swisscom network without restrictions. yallo and swype use the Sunrise network. During peak times, independent MVNOs may have slightly lower network priority. In practice, most users don't notice any difference.

Absolutely. Number portability is guaranteed by law in Switzerland and is free. You request it through your new provider and your number transfers within 1 to 3 business days. During the transfer, you'll be without service for about 1 to 2 hours.

Most budget plans (Wingo, yallo, Digital Republic, GoMo etc.) have no minimum contract and can be cancelled monthly without fees. Plans with device financing have different rules. Always check the contract terms.

Switching usually takes 1 to 3 business days. You request number portability directly with your new provider. They handle everything. During the transfer, you'll be without service for about 1 to 2 hours.

Swisscom raised all plans by CHF 1.90/month as of April 1, 2026. With a unilateral price increase, you have a legal special cancellation right (Art. 40c TCA): you can terminate your current contract immediately and without fees, even if it would normally run for several more months. Write to Swisscom (kundendienst@swisscom.com or by registered mail) and explicitly mention the special cancellation right. You can then switch immediately and your number will be ported by your new provider.

handyabo.com compares all 22 Swiss mobile providers. Switzerland has three mobile networks: Swisscom, Sunrise, and Salt. Many cheaper providers use the exact same infrastructure as the big telecom companies.

Unlimited data in Switzerland starts at CHF 12.95 per month as a permanent price, not a time-limited promo. Right now, GoMo on the Salt network is the cheapest unlimited plan in Switzerland. Digital Republic offers three tiers on the Sunrise network with no promo pricing at all: CHF 13 (Flat Swiss, 2 GB EU roaming), CHF 18 (Flat, 12 GB EU/USA/UK roaming and 100 minutes), and CHF 25 (Flat Plus, 24 GB roaming and unlimited calls in EU/USA/UK). On the Swisscom network, unlimited costs CHF 25.95 per month with Migros Mobile Swiss Max, roughly a third of what Swisscom itself charges for blue Mobile S, with identical coverage. The calculator shows all 128 plans with today's prices and promos.

Good to know: EU roaming is not free in Switzerland, unlike in EU countries. If you travel frequently to Germany, France, Italy, or Austria, choose a plan with EU roaming. Number portability when switching providers is free and takes 1 to 3 business days. Most budget plans have no minimum contract and can be cancelled monthly.
