Yes, number portability in Switzerland is free and takes 1 to 3 working days. When you order your new plan, simply state that you want to bring your existing number along. The new provider handles the rest.
No, 5G is not a must. 4G/LTE is plenty for calls, WhatsApp, photos and videos. Many cheap plans include 5G at no extra cost, you benefit automatically if your phone supports 5G.
