Roaming summer check 2026: almost no plan advertised as 'unlimited' really is

The independent Swiss comparison portal handyabo.com tested all 127 active mobile plans from the 22 Swiss providers for their holiday readiness (reference date 1 June 2026). The result: practically every plan advertised as 'unlimited roaming' throttles at a fair-use limit of usually 20 to 40 GB per month. After that the phone surfs at 128 to 256 kbit/s, modem speed from the 1990s.

Anyone who travels only once or twice a year does not need an expensive roaming plan: good plans with a few GB of EU data start at around CHF 13 to 15. The best price-performance ratio comes not from the big three, but from regional providers like Quickline and GGA Maur. Only a single provider (Mucho) drops any published GB limit.

Blick reported on 11 June 2026 on the report and confronted Swisscom, Sunrise and Salt with the figures.
