TalkTalk raised prices on 1 May: second Swiss telco wave after Swisscom

After Swisscom (1 April), TalkTalk also raised its prices on 1 May 2026. 22 mobile plans were affected, with adjustments between CHF 1 and CHF 3 per month. A third wave was already announced: Sunrise, yallo and Lebara adjusted on 1 August. In all three cases, consumers had the statutory extraordinary right of termination.

Swiss mobile provider TalkTalk made almost all its mobile plans more expensive on 1 May 2026, by CHF 1 to CHF 3 per month. The change is documented on the official talktalk.ch landing page. That makes TalkTalk, after Swisscom, the second Swiss telco within 30 days to raise its prices. A third wave was already announced: Sunrise, yallo and Lebara followed on 1 August 2026.

Four telco waves in 2026 (6 providers)

What looks like a cluster of isolated cases is in fact a pattern in the Swiss mobile market in 2026.

1 August 2026Sunrise, yallo, Lebara+CHF 0.75 to +CHF 1.50sunrise.ch, support.yallo.ch, support.lebara.ch

Individually, the adjustments are moderate. The cluster is not. Within five months, six providers raised their list prices. For customers that means: each of these adjustments opens the statutory extraordinary right of termination of 30 days from the announcement. Anyone with a 12 or 24 month contract now has a rare exit window.

The TalkTalk adjustments in detail

Not affected: prepaid tariffs, business plans, Internet, landline and device instalment payments.

Over a two-year contract term, the increases add up to as much as CHF 72 per plan. For an ALL IN plan, that amounts to extra cost of CHF 36 per year.

Extraordinary right of termination: what customers can do

The extraordinary right of termination is guaranteed by law. TalkTalk documents the conditions itself on its landing page:

"Exercising the extraordinary right of termination must be done by phone on 0800 300 250."

Key points:

  • Cut-off date per TalkTalk: 30 April 2026 for customers who ordered up to 9 March 2026
  • Who can still cancel: customers with orders after 9 March 2026, plus existing customers who only received the notice with the May or June bill. The 30-day window runs from receipt of the announcement
  • Form: by phone on 0800 300 250 (according to TalkTalk, written termination is not accepted before the regular contract end)

Anyone who wants to use the window should have chosen a cheaper alternative before calling. Number porting is free and takes one to three business days.

Alternatives on the identical Sunrise network

TalkTalk is a Sunrise MVNO (officially distributed via mobilezone). Anyone who wants to stay on the same network quality will find the following cheaper alternatives:

ProviderPlanPrice/mo.DataContractSaves vs. TalkTalk
Digital Republic Flat Swiss CHF 13.00 Unlimited + 2 GB EU Monthly contract up to CHF 575/year (vs. Swiss Extra Flex)
Aldi Mobile Swiss Unlimited (promo) CHF 11.90 Unlimited Switzerland Monthly contract up to CHF 600/year
Digital Republic Friends Flat Swiss (from 3 people) CHF 11.70/person Unlimited + 2 GB EU Monthly contract up to CHF 590/year/person
Galaxus Mobile CH unlimited CHF 19.00 Unlimited Switzerland Monthly contract up to CHF 504/year
yallo Smart CHF 24.90 Unlimited Switzerland Monthly contract up to CHF 432/year

For context: Digital Republic, yallo and Galaxus Mobile are all Sunrise MVNOs without contract commitment. When you switch, reception quality stays identical to TalkTalk, because the same network is used.

Anyone who does not want to commit to another provider can also switch within TalkTalk to one of the prepaid offers that were not increased.

What does the wave mean for the Swiss mobile market?

Six providers in four waves over five months is unusual in the Swiss mobile market. The adjustments are small, but they affect millions of customers and follow a similar pattern: a slight increase in the list price with unchanged or slightly adjusted promo prices.

handyabo.com's reading: the market is splitting. Premium providers (Swisscom, Sunrise direct, TalkTalk) keep nudging their list prices up. Discount providers and MVNOs (Lidl Connect, GoMo, Mucho, Digital Republic) cut their effective prices via promos. For consumers that means: whoever actively compares can save more than ever. Whoever stays passive pays more every year.

The next wave was already in preparation: Sunrise, yallo and Lebara announced adjustments for 1 August 2026. Then too, the extraordinary right of termination opened again.
